Why Colt Express is perfect for families and groups of friends

On 11 July 1899 at 10 a.m., the Union Pacific Express leaves Folsom, New Mexico, with 47 passengers on board. Minutes later, gunshots and hurried footsteps can be heard on the roof. Armed bandits have boarded the train to steal the passengers’ money and jewellery – and, most importantly, the case containing the Nice Valley Coal Company’s weekly payroll, guarded by Marshal Samuel Ford.

In Colt Express, you are those very bandits, and only one of you can become the richest outlaw in the Wild West. So it is not just the Marshal you need to watch out for – the other bandits are every bit as dangerous.

Each round begins with players planning their actions by placing cards into a shared pile. Only afterwards are the actions carried out in sequence. This means that a perfect plan can quickly fall apart if another bandit moves you, steals your loot or sends you scrambling onto the roof of the train.

The three-dimensional train brings the action to life. Bandits move between carriages, run across the roof, punch each other, shoot and grab valuable loot. Each character also has a unique ability that opens up new tactical possibilities.

At the end of the game, the player who has fired the most shots receives a $1,000 bonus. But ultimately, the bandit who has amassed the greatest fortune wins.
